Mallards are attracted to flooded timber. Adequate food, water and security are available. They feel safe hiding behind brush, tangled limbs, and tree trunks. Landing without wind means using wings, spread tail, and outstretched feet to the fullest capacity. Flight must be kept in balance or they fall in the water like a clumsy diver. - Maynard Reece
