Phantom of the North
For centuries, the wolf has been the subject of fear and superstition. Ignorant thinking and primitive hysteria have produced a sadly inaccurate picture of this beautiful and mysterious creature. The notoriety of 'the big, bad wolf' lore has served to give form to many of the deep fears and emotional distortions woven within the human psyche.
Once the most widespread land carnivores worldwide, the range of the wolf has been dramaticalliy reduced. Fortunately, the global efforts to exterminate the wolf have not succeeded, and there is a growing recognition of the ecological value of the wolf. Misinformation notwithstanding, new scientific studies are lifting the veil of mystery and reshaping attitudes regarding this remarkable animal.
