"Traveling throughout North America, I get very excited about the old wooden fences one can see in the rural areas; they are excellent for making a nice composition in a painting. Raptors often choose the fences as a perch, so it was evident that I would use just such a fence for my first painting of a red-tailed hawk. The hawk in this painting is part of the zigzag made by the fence and heightens the feeling of depth." - Carl Brenders
