He received support for the project from Thomas Jefferson himself. “I began the composition of 'The Declaration of Independence', with the assistance of [Jefferson's] information and advice.” Trumbull once said, "Indeed, it is Jefferson’s recollection of the Assembly Room that is reproduced on canvas."
