When the Then and the Now Hold Hands
There is a place in the open meadowland near Melville, Montana, where stands what remains of the old Wheeler Creek School which the townspeople of today attended, as did their parents and parents' parents before them. It has weathered the weather but shows signs of the many hard, windy winters. The painting echoes all those generations of lovely, playing, laughing, sun-wrapped children who attended its one-room class, whose spirits must still be not too far away to come and play now that class is out, forever. The picture is a simple one - as is the story - and the land - and the life. - Jessica Zemsky
