Throughout my life, the few times that I have seen a barn owl it has had an almost spiritual, unexpected quality.  In each case, I have been prowling quietly in or near old buildings.  Feeling a bit like an intruder, I have been startled by the silent flapping of the barn owl’s wings. - Robert Bateman
