Broken Silence
"I wanted to play with light in this scene and with the element of camouflage in nature. Fawns have no odor and are very well camouflaged, which protects them against predators. When the painting was finished, I felt that the left side was begging for some action. I painted the red squirrel screeching at the fawns, which suggested to me the title, 'Broken Silence.'" - Carl Brenders
