Ice Cathedral
I have often painted glaciers. Looking back, it seemed to me they became too complex.
This time I decided to try and capture the essence of these majestic pavilions, to simplify the drawing. As I started painting, it quickly took on a life of its own. One doesn't often get the feeling of being outside of oneself when painting, but that is how I felt. It was a sublime feeling.
The finished painting goes beyond what I had originally envisioned. There is, to me, a feeling of mystique about the picture; something spiritual, almost other worldly. I can't explain from whence it came. Certainly it wasn't from me!
