Silk Snapper
"Being new to snapper and reef fish in general, I thought I had found a red snapper to paint when this large silk snapper was landed," said the artist. "The guide and owner of Fat Fish Adventures (and the most skilled hand-liner I know), Peter Jervis, called it a 'red silky.' The confusion was mine. The bright yellow eyes distinguish the silk snapper from the red-eyed red snapper. There is a lot of deceptive nomenclature surrounding red snappers. A study by the University of North Carolina found that seventy out of twenty-two fish sold as red snapper were actually some other kind of fish."
