Springtime Blues
Bluebirds are always a delight to see, with the male bluebird's intense blue color on his upper body and head. It is easy to agree with Thoreau, who referred to the bluebird as a 'bird which carries the sky on his back.'
Bluebirds are cavity nesters. Unfortunately, dead trees and snags are often cleared, destroying their nesting opportunities. To overcome this, many people put up bluebird boxes for the birds to nest in. Large numbers of these nest boxes constitute 'trail;' a cooperative effort to help these beautiful songbirds.
The cascading branches of blue-violet wisteria blooms in the early spring seemed a natural setting for a painting of some of the wonderful 'springtime blues.'
