I created "Storm Runner" after studying wolves extensively at a preserve in my home state of Wisconsin; much of this field work took place during the winter months. There were many storms throughout this time. Even in the worst of the blizzards, the wolves did not seek shelter; being caked with snow never seemed to bother them.

I found these wolves to be curious and adventurous animals who were totally at home in the elements. As he endures the storm, this wolf's bold look of interest looms forth, and the rest of his figure coalesces with the snow.
