Sunday Morning Reflections
A tranquil moment is a moment to be treasured. Whenever we have such a moment in which to escape and reflect on life, we realize that its goodness and beauty is very often found in the smallest things around us; things that we can so easily overlook.
This painting is of a place that I enjoy escaping to for such moments of reflection - a place where I find beauty in the colors and patterns of the light on the water, the textures of the sails, the glistening and sparkling of the sun, the deep, soothing rhythms of the water and the peaceful sounds of the marina. There, the halyards sing a joyful song as they ring against the masts, each with a different tone that reminds me of wind chimes.
On one of the boats I've shown a figure. A mother duck and her ducklings are quietly paddling nearby. Will he take the time to see them, or is he too busy? In this painting, I sought to capture some of the simple pleasures and share them with the viewer. The title, "Sunday Morning Reflections", while referring to the water, also refers to our need for times of reflection - quiet moments of meditation, away from the busyness of life, to appreciate the simple things that make it so beautiful.
