The Cache
"Indians and trappers alike would sometimes hide equipment, furs and supplies in caves, underground pits or any other place that they felt would be safe from their enemy. Many times they were traveling on foot or had too few horses to carry all their goods, so this was a method of protecting supplies until they would return at a later date and retrieve them. These Apaches are hiding their plunder in a hole in the side of a hill, which they will then cover up until such time as they return for their goods." - Howard Terpning
