When Cowboys Get Edgy
Last summer on the way to Montana for the Cowboy Artists' Trailride, I came upon a group of cowboys driving a herd of Herefords to pens on the outskirts of a small village. While I stopped and waited for them I got the idea for this painting.
I started moving cattle when I was a boy, helping my Daddy. I know how many things can spook a herd and how long it takes to get them back together. Watching those cowboys move that herd brought it all back to me. I felt that I knew what each man was thinking as they got closer to the pens. That's what I've tried to get into this painting.
